The publication of an Italian translation (Nella rete technologica. La societa dei macrosistemi [In the Trap of Technology. The Society of Macrosystems]) of Alain Gras's Grandeur et dependance ([Grandeur and Dependency] 1993) occasions a discussion of two issues: (1) the confusion between technological grandeur & reason, on the one hand, & power, on the other; & (2) the complexity of the functioning of technological macrosystems & the efficacy & risks associated with them. Given the pessimism pervading Gras's reification of technological macrosystems, it is surprising that he avoids a straightforward answer to the question of whether humans are slaves to the technology they have created.
Nota critica: è possibile una concezione antropocentrica dei grandi sistemi tecnici?

Abstract
The publication of an Italian translation (Nella rete technologica. La societa dei macrosistemi [In the Trap of Technology. The Society of Macrosystems]) of Alain Gras's Grandeur et dependance ([Grandeur and Dependency] 1993) occasions a discussion of two issues: (1) the confusion between technological grandeur & reason, on the one hand, & power, on the other; & (2) the complexity of the functioning of technological macrosystems & the efficacy & risks associated with them. Given the pessimism pervading Gras's reification of technological macrosystems, it is surprising that he avoids a straightforward answer to the question of whether humans are slaves to the technology they have created.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
