The analysis presented in this paper deals with the question of the integration of a cultural institution in old industrialised contexts, and concerns the use of cultural activities not only as factors of diversification of the local economy, but also as elements of innovation and crossfertilisation for the former industrial functions. The case of Biella industrial district is described paying attention to the experience of Cittadellarte-Pistoletto Foundation, a cultural institution recently localised in the area and operating as an important node of innovation and relationships between the local and the global networks.
