Climatic factors and isotopic traceability of wines. Historically, several different chemical techniques have been employed in controlling product quality certification. Since the beginning of the ’80s, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance and Mass Spectrometry have been proved to be reliable techniques for detecting sophistications and for classifying natural products according to their geographical origin. The present study dealt with the analysis of Nebbiolo and Barbera samples from different years and coming from different areas within Piedmont using SNIF-NMR (Site-specific Isotopic Fractionation-Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) and GC-C-IRMS (Gas Chromatography-Combustion-Isotopic Ratio Mass Spectrometry). The Weather stations placed in fields where grapes grew furnished a large set of climatic data. The aim of this study is the investigation of a direct relationship between isotopic data and climatic parameters at a local level.
