The evaluation of the environmental burdens is becoming an important component in the organization of congresses and international events. Although a lot of solutions can be adopted in order to loweringthe environmental burdens, the consumption of some resources, e.g. fuel for traveling, can not be avoided. Therefore is necessary to apply some kind of compensation to the environmental impacts. In order to make Castanea 2009 more “environmentally friendly”, the organizing committee decided to apply the international procedure protocol EMAS-ISO 14001.
