In the present paper, after summarising the volume’s somewhat turbulent publication history, we will focus on the involvement of Bolognese mathematicians and, in particular, on the scientific dialogue which took place between L. Berzolari, G. Vivanti and G. Vitali regarding the coordination of the "Enciclopedia delle Matematiche Elementari" chapters on analysis.
