Management of stomas is achiaved with disposable appliance fixed to peristomal skin with a potential number of side effects (leakage of faecal material and conseguent skin irritation). A new device designed and patented for the permanent implantation into the submucosal and muscular layers of stoma’s intestinal portion was implanted in four healthy pigs. At 7th, 14th, 21th, 28 th days after the device’s implantation animals were sacrified and the bowel wall histologically examined. Mechanical tests performed in 14th postop. day demonstrated a good resistance of the device. A natural invasion of the mesh by fibroblasts with an evolution from a granulation tissue to a well oriented fibrosis was observed.
Evaluation of a new implanted, external, continent device for ostomies in healthy pigs.

Abstract
Management of stomas is achiaved with disposable appliance fixed to peristomal skin with a potential number of side effects (leakage of faecal material and conseguent skin irritation). A new device designed and patented for the permanent implantation into the submucosal and muscular layers of stoma’s intestinal portion was implanted in four healthy pigs. At 7th, 14th, 21th, 28 th days after the device’s implantation animals were sacrified and the bowel wall histologically examined. Mechanical tests performed in 14th postop. day demonstrated a good resistance of the device. A natural invasion of the mesh by fibroblasts with an evolution from a granulation tissue to a well oriented fibrosis was observed.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
