The knowledge of structures of fibers is relevant either in quality control or in forensic sciences. Pyrolysis coupled to GC/MS (PY-GC/MS) is a powerful investigation tools which gives evidence of the molecular structure of the original fiber and is able to make evident even small differences imputable to a different synthetic route. results are reported on several samples of poly(ethylene terephthalate), polyamide 6, polyamide 6,6 and polypropylene fibers of different origin pyrolyzed using a Curie point pyrolyser coupled with a GC/MS.
