The nematodes parasites (Anisakidae) are usually assumed through consumption of contaminated seafood eaten uncooked. Marine mammals and marine birds are the final hosts of this parasite, while the intermediate hosts are planktonic or benthonic crustaceans. Anisakis spp. during its biological cycle affects many different commercial fish species. The aim was to evaluate the potential risk of seafood consumption from the Ligurian Sea. The parasitological survey was carried out from October 2010 to February 2013. 902 Mullus barbatus were analysed: 190 were collected in Imperia, 648 in Savona and 64 in La Spezia. The fish were weighed, measured and subjected to parasitological examination. The viscera were placed in a petri dish with physiological solution. The petri was positioned under a hot lamp to induce larvae migration outside the viscera. The parasites were fixed in 70% ethyl alcohol. The identification of the larval stages was conducted at the genus level by microscopic observation.
