Fotogrammetria e Sistemi Informativi Geografici per lo studio dei laghi di pertinenza glaciale del Piemonte

This study concerns glacial lakes located in glacial and proglacial areas of Piemonte region. It has been realized through the creation of a Geographical Information System (GIS). The purposes of the research are three: to realize for the first time an inventory of glacial lakes in Piemonte region; carry out a geographical analysis of the phenomenon and finally deepen some cases to increase the knowledge about the relationship between a glacial lake and the respective glacier. This work has been achieved observing orthophotos of 1988-89, 1994-98, 2000 and 2006 flights. When a glacial lake was picked out, it was identified with a symbol and a name and his area was drawn. It was carried out a spatial analysis about: geographical and altitudinal distribution of glacial lakes, the slope of the areas where lakes are located and glaciers exposure. Were also evaluated areal dimensions of the basins. The phenomenon was studied both in its temporal and spatial dimension through the functions of the GIS. On four case studies a multitemporal analysis was done with the production of thematical maps and views of the areas that allowed to understand the changes occurring during the period considered (1954-2006)
