Ochratoxin A (OTA) is a fungal secondary metabolite exhibiting nephrotoxic, immunosuppressive, teratogenic and carcinogenic properties. It is produced by a number of ubiquitous moulds of Penicillium and Aspergillus genera that contaminate agricultural commodities, either before harvest or during storage. This work aimed to evaluate the effects of a diet for broiler chickens contaminated with 0.1 mg OTA/kg (the maximum level suggested by the Commission Recommendation 2006/576/EC for poultry feed) on the liver and kidney functions and on the immune system.
