The article discusses the role of body movement, perception and kinaesthesia in mathematical thinking and accounts for the virtuality of mathematical concepts. A first person experience with a graphing motion software (WiiGraph), which involves ample body movements and is used to draw a circle, is presented. To study the unfolding of the mathematical concept through movement, the lived-through dynamic realities of the experience (Sheets-Johnstone, 2011) are analysed to highlight nuances that are disclosed in the process, while the remixing of matter and meaning in mathematical activity (de Freitas & Sinclair, 2014) is discussed through the idea of folds.

Abstract
The article discusses the role of body movement, perception and kinaesthesia in mathematical thinking and accounts for the virtuality of mathematical concepts. A first person experience with a graphing motion software (WiiGraph), which involves ample body movements and is used to draw a circle, is presented. To study the unfolding of the mathematical concept through movement, the lived-through dynamic realities of the experience (Sheets-Johnstone, 2011) are analysed to highlight nuances that are disclosed in the process, while the remixing of matter and meaning in mathematical activity (de Freitas & Sinclair, 2014) is discussed through the idea of folds.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
