The present study shows that parental rejection is a significant risk factor for muscle dysmorphia symptoms in male adolescents, acting through early maladaptive schemas of abandonment/instability, mistrust/abuse, and defectiveness/shame. By highlighting these cognitive pathways, our findings emphasize the value of assessing family attachment experiences and schema profiles in both prevention and clinical screening. The implementation of schema-oriented interventions may mitigate the effects of early rejection on body image and reduce the development of muscle dysmorphia. Abstract
