Riding the waves of change: English and Spanish emergency remote courses at the University of Turin

The Covid-19 emergency forced teachers and learners to rethink their approach to teaching and learning. Studies on the educational response to the pandemic reveal that a variety of approaches were adopted to tackle this educational emergency (Bozkurt 2020; Peters 2020), which impacted on cohorts of students and teachers worldwide (Bozkurt & Sharma 2020; Bali 2020). Research on Higher Education showed that the challenges posed by the abrupt transition to remote learning were more effectively managed in universities, which had already incorporated the constant use of digital resources into teaching and learning, such as video conferencing tools, like Cisco WebEx or Zoom, and institutional learning platforms such as Moodle (Baldock, Fernandez, Franco, Provencher & McCoy 2021).
