Field trials were carried out in 1994 and 1995 to assess the risk of carry-over of imazethapyr, rimsulfuron and primisulfuron on maize (Zea mays L.), barley (Hordeum vulgare L.), soyabean (Glycine max [L.] Merr.), white mustard (Sinapis alba L.) considered as replacement crops. The experiments were conducted in both years on a sandy-loam soil (pH 6.1; O.M. 1.26%; cation exchange capacity 23.36 mEquiv. 100 g-1). Crops were planted at at 0, 7, 14, 28 and 56 days after the application (DAT) of the herbicides (imazethapyr 35 g a.i. ha-1; rimsulfuron and primisulfuron 15 g a.i. ha-1). The ranking among crops based on sensitivity to the three herbicides was mustard > barley > soyabean ≥ maize. Imazethapyr gave severe injuries to mustard planted till 28 DAT, slight damages to barley and variable effects to soyabean and maize. Rimsulfuron determined heavy efects on mustard, barley and soyabean planted till 28 DAT. Primisulfuron injured severely mustard, barley and soyabean planted till 28 DAT and gave slight effects on maize. Damages occurred in 1994 did not vary remarkably when planting the crops during the first 28 DAT, while in 1995 reduced gradually delaying the crop planting from treatment. In both years injuries were not any more visible on all crops with planting at 56 DAT.
