The surface (super-) acidity of several sulfate-doped ZrO2 specimens was studied, mainly by FTIR spectroscopy and adsorption microcalorimetry, and turned out to depend on several parameters (e.g., temperature of ZrO2 pre-sintering, temperature of activation, concentration of surface sulfates). The activity towards iso-propyl alcohol has been preliminarly investigated for one of the sulfate-doped ZrO2 preparations.
