Cluster thinning was tested for 4 consecutive years in a vineyard located in southern Piedmont. At harvest, concentrations of flavonoids were assessed by spectrophotometry and HPLC. Soluble solids and anthocyanins were morre concentrated following berry thinning. Concentrations of nonmethylated or monomethylated anthocyanins increased following thinning, while concentration of malvidin 3-glucoside did not change.

Abstract

Cluster thinning was tested for 4 consecutive years in a vineyard located in southern Piedmont. At harvest, concentrations of flavonoids were assessed by spectrophotometry and HPLC. Soluble solids and anthocyanins were morre concentrated following berry thinning. Concentrations of nonmethylated or monomethylated anthocyanins increased following thinning, while concentration of malvidin 3-glucoside did not change.
