Abstract

Consumer habits are changing as a result of the new technologies used in day-to-day life and, as a consequence, consumer goods manufacturers and distribution companies must develop new ways of relating to their buyers. The various functions and purposes that this instrument may fulfil have generated a variety of initiatives in several sectors. One of these involves the Piedmont region and its traditional products. For several years, a process has started aimed at implementing a 2D barcode system to enhance and promote wine production in the province of Turin. In order to assess the level of interest in implementing advanced tracing and communication systems, the Torino Chamber of commerce and the Department of Commodity Science of the University of Turin have carried out a survey to obtain information about the perception and use of ICT tools in the wine sector, with particular reference to smart tags. The information was collected through direct PAPIs (Paper and Pen Interview) and was loaded and processed using the SPSS statistics program (Statistical Package for Social Science) - PASW Statistics 18, after which it was adapted into graphic format using Microsoft Office Excel. Based on the results of investigations carried out at the wineries in collaboration with the Department of Commodity Science, the Torino Chamber of commerce has chosen a new promotional model with a dual objective: to bring ICT solutions to wine companies, while promoting the territory as an expression of production and cultural identity.
