Two methods of apple pruning have been compared on Golden Delicious and Galaxy cultivars in Piedmont. The tesis included were: traditional taille longue, taille longue with extinction and low yield, taille longue with extinction and high yield. Taille longue is largely spread in Piedmont, while the manual elimination of the buds (extinction) to optimize the yield is under test. This second method seems able to obtain a good harvest, a best distribution of the light in the canopy and a better size of the apples.
